Founded in 2007 by Canterbury City Council, the festival has been programmed and delivered by a number of different teams over the years. Since the humble beginnings of that first festival, Anifest has grown dramatically, welcoming the likes of Aardman, Double Negative, DreamWorks, LAIKA, Pixar, and The Ray Harryhausen Foundation. We’ve also been fortunate to welcome individuals who have played leading roles in the production of films such as Avatar, Ghost in the Shell, and X-Men, to name but a few. In 2016, Canterbury Christ Church University took over ownership of the festival and handed the responsibility of delivering the next Anifest to a small team of media lecturers – who also happen to be huge animation enthusiasts.

2016: Marbella Film Festival

The Marbella Film Festival is the flagship project of New World Trust, an organisation created to provide support for talented artists across the globe. The festival is from September 28 to October 2, 2016. Located in Estepona ( MALAGA), Spain.

Van Gogh cut off his ear. Artists are known for displaying their tempestuous passion for their craft. Oddly enough, despite this passion and often remarkable talent, artists find it difficult to emerge into the commercial world. This is because most artists are left unequipped with the means and often the knowledge to have their talent appreciated, thus rendering success as an artist exceedingly difficult. Remember, in his life Van Gogh only sold ONE painting. This festival and it’s workshops are here to improve an artists knowledge and information.

Animations :
The Gentle Giant
“The Gentle Giant” is another animated document by Marcin Podolec, whose characteristic drawings turn the protagonist’s logorrhea into a series of expressive, black-and-white images. This time, the narrator is a poet – a verse-battler and veteran of poetry slams. The artist’s introspective story describes the tough beginnings, family relations and his struggle against one’s limits in both life and art. The director’s visual style perfectly blends with the protagonist’s words and complements them, giving an original form to his thoughts, feelings and memories, at the same time referencing to comic strip classics such as ”Peanuts” by Charles Schultz. Piotr Markowicz and Rafał Samborski – the men behind the soundtrack – made sure that the story flows with an appropriate rhythm.Olbrzym-1
